Police officers in Garsen have demolished 1 IDP camps in the area sighting poor state of hygiene within the camp. Approximately 50 people were left homeless when the police demolished their homesteads during the wee hours of the morning.The demolition was conducted amidst fears that the camped served as a conducive sight for COVID -19 infections due to poor hygiene, according to government administration officials.
Residents of Garsen and Tana River as a whole have taken to social media to register their anger over the 4 a.m. demolitions.The exercise is also reported to have targeted the Pokomo IDP camps which is already creating inter ethnic divides among the Orma/ Wardei and Pokomo communities.
Tana River governor has donated food stuffs and tents to those affected and asked communities to remain calm as they resolve the matter with the national government.
