Criminal gang terrorizing Lamu residents amid harsh COVID 19 economic period.

Description

Police in Lamu are looking for a panga-wielding gang that has been terrorizing residents. The gang, believed to consist of young men from Gadeni, is well known for the ruthless manner in which they pursue, ambush and then attack their victims using pangas and knives. Around 8 people were attacked and maimed by the gang. Locals claimed insecurity incidents have been aggravated by economic downfall resulted by COVID-19 mitigation measures in the County. Residents have claimed for increased patrols on all roads, streets and villages in Lamu Counties. The incidents were attributed to the loss of employment by many youth due to the COVID 19 prevention directives.
